The Finishing Journal – Page 23

Playing – SpaceChem (Steam)
What the what? Where did this game come from? At first, I was confused. I stayed confused for the first twenty or so moments of play. Then there was a click, a near audible one in my head. The game went from confusing to magnificent! This game comes with the heaviest of recommendations from a friend. He has clocked so many hours on it that you may confuse time played with the national debt clock. I am not that far into it, but if you love games that cause your frontal lobe to slam into your skull with excitement from the amount of stimulation it is receiving, then SpaceChem is for you. It is part of the Humble Bundle right now. You know what to do. GO GO GO!

Playing – Uncharted: The Golden Abyss (Vita)
Have I mentioned how much I love the Vita lately? Well, I love my Vita. I love it so much that I am over looking what I call the “problems” with Golden Abyss. There is an Uncharted game here no matter how hard Bend Studio tries to hide it. When the game gets into it’s groove, it really really feels like one of it’s Naughty Dog big brothers. You are traversing, pulling off head shots, and engaging in brutal fist fights. With all that fun happening, the game looks amazing. Screen shots do not do it justice. No screen shots of the Vita do it justice. Go get one.

Playing – Papo & Yo (Playstation 3)
I have lots of things to say about Papo & Yo, lots. I am not going to get into it very deep here. With some games it is easy to give bite size updates, but I don’t think this is one of them. From it’s first moments, I realized I was seeing something different. Yes, I know how it is doing in the ratings, but I really didn’t care. From the moment I first heard about Papo & Yo, I wanted to play it. I don’t know if I am having fun or not, but I have not stopped playing. I think about the game when I am not playing. That is saying something there.

Needles – Teeth (My Mouth)
I have problems with my teeth, really bad problems. I take care of them, but they don’t seem to care. Every once in a while, one will decide to break in half. Well, guess what? CRACK! If you have never had a tooth break in half, count yourself as lucky. It feels like someone ripping your face in half. So there I was on a Saturday with a face full of pain. Not only does the broken tooth hurt, but every tooth attached to the nerves in your mouth start hurting. That is all your teeth for those keeping count. Dentist’s don’t seem to want to work on Saturday. I don’t blame them. I don’t want to work on Saturday. Some phone calls were made and soon we found someone who could help. By help, I mean getting Novocaine injected into what is possibly the most painful place in your entire body – the roof of your mouth. I don’t know how to express the suffering that is involved. There is little room up in there for a foreign substance to be injected. But, it has to go in there. It feels like the roof of your mouth is being torn in half. I was forcing myself back in the chair and shaking violently. I wanted it to be over. It seemed to go on forever. Soon the pain was gone. Then, he started drilling and drilling and drilling. I think he was playing the mouth equivalent of Dig Dug. I am still on the road to recovery. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Hoping it is not a freight train.

Well, I’m off to game.

Remember this?

Even though I no longer consider this the best in the series, this was the reason I owned a Sega CD.
