The Finishing Journal – Page 14

IRL – Heatstroke (house)
It got hot outside. Not just normal hot, but the kind of hot that requires you to cook an Egg McMuffin on the sidewalk just to see if it works. The past few years we had an air conditioner we unlovingly called “Leaky”. Leaky was just a wreck! It leaked (bet you didn’t guess that already), and it would trip the circuit breaker every time it powered up the cooling unit. I never figured out what you had to use to prevent this from happening? My only guess would be a nuclear powered sub’s engine. But if it tripped that, we might have some sailors in major trouble. So we decided not to use Leaky this year. The past few summers have been mild. This summer? This summer has been brutal!

My Dad came up and saved us by getting us a couple of air conditioners. The house is cooler. We are happier, and the kids are happier. But now I don’t have fresh from the sidewalk Egg McMuffins. It’s an okay trade off I suppose.

Talking – Pen Fights Gamepad (podcast)
Four episodes? Really? Yeah! So Dan and I got together to talk about everything. Need a spoiler? We talk about why you shouldn’t take the trash out to a dumpster in an alley while a gun fight is happening in said ally. Need a quick link to the podcast? Here you go! It’s not even on PenFightsGamepad dot com yet! That is what you get for being such an awesome and loyal reader. Go enjoy and drop a comment below telling me what you think!

Finishing – Call of Duty Classic (XBLA)
Remember when I said I was really stuck? Well, I bested it. I bested it by breaking it, breaking it bad. No, I didn’t cook some meth in my underpants and sell it, but I did find a wall. I ran out of the building I was supposed to be guarding and hid behind the wall. There was a four minute countdown until reinforcements arrived. When I said I broke the game I was not kidding. All the bad guys were just standing outside the building doing nothing. Just standing there. My guys came out of the building to stand with them. I saw all of this through the scope of my rifle. It was strange. Then I was asked to shoot 15 nazis. I shot 15 with no problem. Mission accomplished. The next level involved no effort whatsoever to beat. I really hope this ends soon!

Playing – Gravity (PS Vita)
I find myself just carrying my Vita around. It’s sleep function is amazing. It will just suspend your game progress and shut the screen down. This makes it really easy to play for a few seconds here and there, collect a few gems here and there. I have stopped the story for a bit. I just want to collect some gems because I need more power. MORE POWER! There was a cool story twist. Really cool plot twist.

Playing – Duke Nukem Forever (PlayStation 3)
This game reminds me of a swing. I keep swinging through several generations and years of gaming. I can travel from what was obviously developed for a PlayStation 2 into a moment that is using a lot of the horses under the PlayStation 3 hood. It is not using that power for anything good, but it is what is happening. This game may be a time capsule. You get to see years of styles of gaming all in one sucky place! JOY!

Well, I’m off to game.
